These reproductions are inspired by dolls found in European and American households in the early 1800's. Head, hands and feet are constructed of a durable composition clay. the primitive body is made of muslin. The entire doll has been treated to a stained and antiqued finish. Hands are attached with navy blue ribbon and feet are attached with ecru ribbon. The upper arms are stuffed and attached to the dress separately. All clay parts on the doll are hand sculpted using no molds.
This 18" doll is dressed in an antiqued deep red fabric with a tan satin ribbon tied about her bust and sleeves. A crochet lace fichu is wrapped around her shoulders and features a metal fastener in the front. Her sculpted hair is painted brown, a curl cluster sits atop her head, painted wispy curls surround her face. She wears a hairband of ruffles lace and deep red ribbon. A pair of glass faux pearl earrings dangle from her ears. Her beautiful eyes are translucent brown.
Included, is a wooden trunk finished in an antique patina. The exterior is light grey, the inside is brown. It is filled with five tiny dolls. They depict an infant, a gentleman, and three ladies (one with a tied bonnet). They are all jointed at the shoulders and hips and all measure 2 inches. There is a total of six dolls in this set.
