These reproductions are inspired by dolls found in European and American households in the early 1800's. Head, hands and feet are constructed of a durable composition clay. the primitive body is made of muslin. The entire doll has been treated to a stained and antiqued finish. Hands are attached with green ribbon and feet are attached with ecru ribbon. The upper arms are stuffed and attached to the dress separately. All clay parts on the doll are hand sculpted using no molds. This is an art doll, clothing cannot be removed. Not a toy.
This 18" doll is dressed in an antiqued black and ecru checked fabric with a black satin ribbon tied about her bust and sleeves. Crochet pompom trim edges her neckline, and a deep red satin bow is featured at her bust. Her sculpted hair is painted brown with drop curls cascading down both sides of her face. On her head she wears a lacy cotton bandeau lined with deep red paper roses and satin foliage. One hand is sculpted to where she can hold one of the smaller dolls onto which she is sewing a dress. A faux needle and thread are attached and may be positioned in her hands. She has brown eyes that are cast downward while she completes her task.
Included, is a deep red wooden trunk finished in an antique patina. It is filled with five colorful tiny dolls that she has completed. The 5 smaller dolls are all jointed at the shoulders and hips and measure 2 inches tall. They can be slightly posed. There is a total of six dolls in this set including the 18" doll.
